Freeland only managed to run for 107 yards, but the Falcons covered the most important yard with nine seconds remaining Friday to snatch a 29-26 win over Clare in the season-opener.

Clare took a 26-22 lead with 3:47 remaining on a 46-yard pass to Carter Smedley, but Jake Metiva led a Freeland drive for the game-winning score. He hit Ty Fournier on a pass to the 3-yard line, and with nine seconds remaining, Sam Talaga bowled over for the winning TD. Ethan Gosen’s PAT gave the Falcons the three-point cushion.
