Hugh Bernreuter is a sports reporter for, focusing on high school sports in the Saginaw area. He has worked as a sports reporter for 42 years, starting in 1981. During his career, he has won 46 writing awards from Michigan Associated Press, Michigan Press Association and United Press International, including a variety of writing awards from the Mid-American Conference Media Association. He was won 18 first-place awards for Sports Writing, Sports Features, Sports Columns, Sustained Coverage and News Features. He also covers minor-league baseball (Great Lakes Loons) and OHL hockey (Saginaw Spirit). He has covered a Super Bowl, college football bowl games, NBA playoffs, MLB playoffs, LPGA events and horse racing, along with a variety of other sports. He has also worked at the Lansing State Journal and The State News, where he was the beat reporter for the Michigan State University men's basketball team. He is a 2023 inductee into the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame and graduated from Michigan State University in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in journalism.
