Tyler is a lifelong West Michigander. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, he was fortunate enough to have a brief stint playing professional hockey, and quickly began a career in broadcasting when he hung up his skates. He began his writing career covering the team he played for in Canada, and carried that into work covering different aspects of the game. He has been a beat writer for NHL teams, and covered the NCAA Frozen Four and multiple IIHF events, including the Women's and Men's World Championships, and the World Junior Championships. Since joining MLive, he has been a part of gameday coverage for the Red Wings, Tigers, Pistons and Lions. He has also helped out with the site's work involving Michigan and Michigan State athletics. He currently is the beat writer for the Grand Rapids Griffins, American Hockey League affiliate of the Red Wings, as well as the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Tigers' High-A farm team. An avid race fan, Tyler also broadcasts the action at Berlin Raceway, while writing recaps and features for MLive as well. He is currently a freelance broadcaster, broadcasting for the likes of Western Michigan University and Ferris State.
