JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Warm weather is coming more frequently these days, which means ice cream is on the mind of Jackson-area residents.

Spad’s Twisters officially opened n March, replacing Swiss Treat at 4005 Lansing Ave. The business was taken over by Rebecca Lewis, who continues to bring sweet treats to the area.

“Everything is kind of falling into place,” Lewis said. “My staff is great, they’ve all trained very quickly and I’m grateful to have a good group of people in here with me.”

The ice cream shop specializes in soft-serve treats. The menu features a range of cones, sundaes, shakes and flurries.

Some of the specialty items featured already have become popular, especially the Trash Can Sundae, Lewis said. It comes with vanilla soft serve and is topped with, Oreos, cookie dough, M&M’s, Reese’s, whipped cream and gummy worms, all inside of a plastic toy trash can.

“I think it’s probably the most fun thing on our menu. It sticks out the most,” Lewis said.

The Reese’s Cup Sundae is also featured, along with the Elvis Sundae, which comes with chocolate soft serve, peanut butter syrup, bananas and whipped cream.

Swiss Treat Owners Greg and Becky Vancalbergh sold the building to Lewis to focus on their other business, Jackson Popcorn Depot at Jackson Crossing.

Lewis said she is excited to get more involved in the Jackson area.

“I’m just looking forward to growing with the community and growing as a business owner,” Lewis said.

Spad’s Twisters’ is a mid-Michigan-based ice cream shop with seven other locations, including Chelsea, Lansing and Grand Rapids.

The ice cream shop is open from 1:30 to 9 p.m. everyday in Jackson. Hours will expand once the weather gets warmer, Lewis said.
