PointsBet Michigan Complete Overview

PointsBet Michigan complete overview

Believe it or not, PointsBet originally hails from Australia and debuted in the United States in January 2019. It has since competed with the heavyweights in the game with its fun promotions, unique features and intriguing welcome bonus.

PointsBet officially went live in the state of Michigan back in January 2021. While it’s one of over a dozen online sportsbooks currently legal in MI, PointsBet stands out from the majority of the pack

Despite this overall positive note, we experienced both pros and cons when making our 2023 PointsBet Michigan review.

PointsBet Michigan welcome bonus

PointsBet sports betting promo M

The welcome bonus at PointsBet Michigan is a bit different than your traditional deposit match offer. At PointsBet, you receive up to $1000 in bonus bets with PointsBet Second Chance.

After creating an account and entering the promo code WELCOME, simply place a fixed odds cash bet each day for five (10) days. There is no opt-in required! If you don’t win your first cash bet of the day, PointsBet MI will give you up to $100 back in bonus bets each day for five (5) days.

Essentially, you have the possibility of receiving a maximum of $1000 back in bonus bets with this sign-up offer. If your first bet after signing up with PointsBet is $100, and it loses, you’ll get that $100 back in bonus bets. We find this to be a robust and creative welcome offer.

Can existing customers use a PointsBet promo code?

Customers who already have an account with PointsBet Sportsbook can use promo codes. However, the promo code must be eligible for existing users instead of being limited to new customers. For instance, you won’t be able to use the previously mentioned welcome offer if you already made bets with PointsBet MI, as it’s limited to new users.

Other promotions and offers

While other sportsbooks may offer a wide range of sports betting promos in MI, PointsBet’s selection is somewhat hit or miss. Currently, they feature just a single promotion at their sportsbook for bettors to take advantage of. Compare the limited offerings at PointsBet below with the broader promotions available elsewhere in the state.

Power Hour

PointsBet is currently offering their Power Hour promotion, which gifts each user a bonus bet in their account each day. At 6 PM (EST) every day, PointsBet automatically adds a bonus bet to your account that must be used on a Same Game Parlay wager.

This promotion goes on for 60 calendar days and is a smash hit amongst PointsBet users. You just need a valid account and have made a minimum of one (1) deposit into your PointsBet Account to qualify.

PointsBet Refer-a-Friend

Earning the PointsBet Michigan Refer-a-Friend bonus is easy. You just need to send your unique referral link to your friend and have them sign-up and create an account. After their identity is verified they will have to make a minimum deposit and a minimum real money wager of $20.

After that process is completed, you and your referred friend will each receive a $100 bonus bet. Your $100 bonus bet will be valid to use for 14 calendar days after it reaches your account.

It’s important to note that 100 Rewards points are equal to $1 in bonus bets, and 250 Rewards points is the minimum to redeem

Overall, we find PointsBet Rewards to be a bit underwhelming. Other premier sportsbooks offer bigger prizes for earning their concept of rewards points. Some even offer vacation stays and hotel discounts. PointsBet Rewards merely grants you some bonus bets, nothing more.

Key features at PointsBet MI

While PointsBet falls a bit short in their promotions and rewards program, they make up ground with an array of awesome features. Check them out below:

PointsBetting

Key Features at PointsBet Michigan

This is a feature unique to PointsBet Sportsbook that grants bettors larger winnings for being “more correct” with their bets. However, you can also lose more for being “more wrong”, so it’s a double-edged sword.

For example, suppose you place a $10 bet on a game between the New York Knicks and the Chicago Bulls to end with over 200 total points scored. If the final score is 210 points, you’ll take home $100 ($1 for every point or unit). Meanwhile, if the final score is just 190 points, you’ll lose $100. It’s vital that you know the exact details of PointsBetting prior to participating in the unique feature.

Name a Bet

Another feature that is unique to PointsBet is their Name a Bet opportunity, which allows you to build your own unique bet. To do this, you must Name a Bet that isn’t currently being offered by PointsBet and submit it to the sportsbook. After they receive your proposed bet, they’ll respond with odds and you may choose whether or not you’d like to make that bet with those odds.

Partial Cash Out

Partial Cash Out is a different and more favorable feature than your traditional Early Cash Out, because Partial Cash Out lets you settle your bet and collect some of your winnings early or save some of your stake from a bet that’s losing. If you want to let part of your bet go the distance, use the slider to choose the amount you want to cash out and leave the rest to let it ride!

Same Game Parlays

Like just about every other respectable sportsbook, PointsBet allows you to make Same Game Parlays on sporting events. PointsBet actually calls itself the home of the Same Game Parlay. You just combine multiple bet selections (legs) all on the same game. The more legs you add, the greater the payouts.

PointsBet Michigan Betting Markets and Odds Comparison

PointsBet MI odds comparison

During the 2023 NBA Playoffs, we shopped around for the best odds as it pertained to the round one matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York Knicks. We compared odds from PointsBet, BetMGM, Caesars, and DraftKings to conclude that PointsBet was tied with Caesars for the most favorable odds.

We then checked out the NBA futures bets to see who posted the best odds for the Los Angeles Lakers to win the 2023 NBA Finals. PointsBet was tied with BetMGM as having less favorable odds compared to that of Caesars and especially DraftKings Sportsbook.

Overall, we found that PointsBet has very competitive pre-event moneyline and point spread odds. However, when it comes to futures betting, they often post less favorable odds compared to their competitors.

Michigan team partnerships and deals

Michigan has four major American sports franchises within its state lines—and every one of those teams has at least one partnership with online sports gaming companies. PointsBet, in partnership with the Detroit Red Wings, provides a platform for fans to bet on NHL games, further enhancing the sports betting experience.

The deal was agreed to back in January 2021, and the Sports and Social Detroit at Little Caesars Arena was immediately rebranded as the PointsBet Sports Bar. PointsBet originally had a partnership with the Detroit Tigers of the MLB, but BetMGM Michigan has since taken over that deal.

User experience

PointsBet Michigan Underrated User Experience

While PointsBet falls flat in regards to its banking options, they present a wonderful user experience on both the desktop version and the mobile app. The red and black color scheme, along with the efficient layout truly impressed us during the review process.

You’ll find that the site’s homepage is laid out in a way that you’ll never get confused, even as a new member of PointsBet. We also liked how they allow you to seamlessly bounce back and forth between the sportsbook and the online casino.

All in all, the user experience at PointsBet Michigan is top-notch, competing with all of the heavyweights in the industry.

PointsBet mobile app review

The PointsBet mobile app is readily available to download for both Android and iOS users, and it possesses a user rating of 4.5 and 4.8, respectively. The app has all of the redeeming qualities that we enjoyed about the desktop version, including a great layout, premier speed, and cross-platform ability from sportsbook to casino.

Once on the homepage, you’ll immediately see the top promotions in a big graphic towards the top of the page. Under that is a ribbon with the most popular sports, which is located just above the day’s top games.

The bottom ribbon, which appears there whether you’re on the homepage or not, contains key buttons like menu, sports, live, quick parlay, casino, and my bets. We found the bet submission process to be a very rapid process that took under a minute from beginning to end.

PointsBet desktop version

As previously mentioned, not only are we without complaints as it pertains to the desktop experience, but we’re wholeheartedly impressed. While PointsBet isn’t considered a heavyweight in the online sports betting industry like say DraftKings and FanDuel, they present as one with their website and mobile app.

The desktop version of PointsBet is essentially laid out the exact same way as the mobile app, which is a good thing. Finding promotions, your favorite sports and your bets take little to no effort as everything is displayed just how you’d want it.

While even some of the best sportsbooks in Michigan experience a dropoff in maneuverability and/or fluidity between the desktop version and the mobile app, PointsBet MI does not. The desktop version runs just as smoothly as the mobile app—and we’re sure that you’ll love navigating the site.

PointsBet online casino

PointsBet Michigan Online Casino

The PointsBet Online Casino can be accessed right on the sportsbook site and the mobile app, simply by clicking the “casino” icon at the top of the homepage. While the PointsBet Sportsbook is highly-rated, the online casino is not.

Partnered with Michigan’s Northern Waters Casino, the PointsBet Online Casino offers slots, table games, and live dealer games. Unfortunately, they have a very small library of casino games (under 60) and the promotions geared towards the online casino are limited.

Overall, out of every online casino in Michigan, we least recommend using Pointsbet, primarily because there are many other better options out there.

In-Person betting in Michigan

  • Online Sportsbook: PointsBet
  • Casino Partner: Northern Waters Casino Resort
  • Address: N5384 US-45, Watersmeet, MI 49969

Michigan allows for in-person betting at all of their 24 brick-and-mortar casinos that are currently operating in the state. The Northern Waters Casino Resort is the official casino partner of PointsBet, but it’s important to know that the PointsBet Sportsbook is unaffiliated with Northern Waters. The brand first touched down in Michigan after inking a deal with the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians back in January 2021.

Customer service & support

If you ever run into an issue while using PointsBet Sportsbook, don’t worry, because they have a stellar customer service system to assist you. Since launching in the United States, PointsBet has revamped its customer support system and has introduced a variety of support options, including a FAQs section, live chat support, a phone line, and an email response team.

PointsBet Michigan Customer Service and Support

Our recommendation, if you encounter an issue, is to try contacting PointsBet’s live chat support. In our experience, the live chat responded swiftly, and the operator was incredibly helpful. Notably, the live chat is available to you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If that doesn’t work for you, we found the phone line and the email service to be helpful as well.

  • Phone: (833) 338-PBET
  • Email: service@pointsbet.com

Lastly, take a look at the FAQs section, which can be found in the Menu on both the desktop site and mobile app upon scrolling to the bottom of the page. There, you can find specific questions with full-scale answers that could very well provide you with answers.

What sets PointsBet apart from its competition

We like many aspects of the PointsBet Michigan online sportsbook, including its creative welcome bonus, competitive odds, and most of all, the unique features. More specifically, we found the features to all be outstanding.

You won’t commonly find a trio of unique features like that with many sportsbooks. Most sportsbooks have things like Same Game Parlays and Early Cash Out, but nothing like the three features previously mentioned.

We particularly found the Partial Cash Out feature to be enticing, as it allows you to cash out part of your winnings early and leave a portion in to let it ride the rest of the way. When this feature is utilized, you benefit from partially cashing out while keeping the added excitement alive by still keeping some of your skin in the game.

The unique features at PointsBet set them apart from many of its competitors in the current landscape.

Our overall thoughts on PointsBet MI

Overall, we give PointsBet Michigan a cumulative rating of 8.8 out of 10. The sportsbook scored highest in the user experience, security, and customer support categories. But they fell short when it came to bonuses/promotions and banking.

We still view PointsBet as a quality betting option in MI due to its unique features, great user experience, and elite mobile app. Furthermore, we advise you to make an account with PointsBet MI just to mess around with the features and to see if you like the book more than our preferred options.
