MUSKEGON, MI-- Thousands of people sunk their toes in the sand as they sampled a variety of beers, ciders and seltzers Saturday at Muskegon’s Pere Marquette Beach during the Burning Foot Beer Festival.

Festivalgoers had the opportunity to taste cold beverages from 100 breweries. The majority of the breweries were from Michigan, with a handful of breweries from Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa.

Julian Marley, son of reggae legend Bob Marley, headlined the Saturday, Aug. 26 event with sounds of roots-reggae music.

“We’re going back toward a beachy vibe versus the 90s rock that we’ve had in the past,” Lakeshore Brewers Guild Board Member Jimmy Hegedus told MLive/Muskegon Chronicle.

This was the eighth year of the festival, which started in 2015. On Saturday, a large section of the beach was transformed into makeshift festival grounds with stages, dozens of tents and art instillations.

The event’s entertainment also featured artist Caliko and a 90s summer dance party with DJ Armando. Tropidelic, a six-piece band from Cleveland, also hit the stage with a unique mix of genres like reggae, hip-hop and high-energy funk..

Along with the various beer selections, festival attendees had the option to grab food from local Muskegon restaurants like Hamburger Mikey and Tiki Boiz.

As dusk approached, fire pits lit up the beach and flames shot out of a flaming hop tower at the center of the festival. Several art installations were also on the beach.

The event started at 3 p.m. People who wanted to stay the evening purchased beach camping passes, allowing them to sleep in a tent on the sand adjacent to the festival grounds.
