Here are 10 road closures beginning this week in Michigan

Work on I-94 continues in Kalamazoo County on June 14. Officials expect the project to finish in August.

More than 70 new construction projects will require some form of road closures this week in Michigan as crews continue their busy season.

Among the major projects scheduled for Monday, Aug. 28, through Saturday, Sept. 2, include work on I-94 in Macomb and Kalamazoo counties, as well as U.S. 12 in Wayne County, and I-96 in Livingston County.

In total, the Michigan Department of Transportation has more than 600 ongoing or upcoming road projects on its construction schedule as of late August.

Below is a summary of a dozen upcoming closures to watch out for this week. All projects are weather dependent, and state officials remind drivers to slow down and follow posted signage in work zones.

U.S. 12 in Wayne County

Both directions of Michigan Avenue (U.S. 12) are scheduled to have a single-lane closure in place starting Monday between I-94 and Cass Avenue, and at the road’s intersections with Trenton Street and Saint James Street/Addison Street.

All of the work along Michigan Avenue, plus construction on the cross streets, is scheduled to continue until Sept. 8.

M-51 and M-62 in Cass County

Permit work on Front Street (M-51) will begin Monday between Sunset Street and M-62 in both directions. That work will close the right lane until late October.

In the same area, M-62 will have its center lane closed between Pokagon Street and Colby Street from Monday through late October.

I-94 in Macomb County

A handful of lane closures are scheduled along I-94 in Macomb County this week, all of which will be in place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Scheduled permit work will have westbound I-94 without its left lane for a stretch of highway Monday. The work area will be between 9 Mile Road and 8 Mile Road, and will include a lane shift. The eastbound right lane will also be closed between Masonic Boulevard and 14 Mile Road during that same six-hour period.

On Tuesday, it’ll be the westbound right lane between Quinn Road and 14 Mile Road that’s closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Wednesday, it’ll be the westbound right lane between Cotton Road and 21 Mile Road.

On Thursday, it’ll be the left two eastbound lanes closed between M-59 and 21 Mile Road, and on Friday it’ll be the left two westbound lanes closed between Cotton Road and 21 Mile Road.

I-94 in Kalamazoo County

The eastbound highway between Lovers Lane and Portage Road will have its left two lanes closed overnight Monday with a lane shift in place. The double-lane closure is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Then starting Tuesday, eastbound I-94 between Westnedge Avenue and Portage Road will have its left lane closed for construction into Thursday morning, and its right lane will be closed from 8 p.m. Tuesday to about 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Ramps to and from I-94 and Portage Road have also been closed since the spring, but are preparing to open in mid-September.

I-96 in Livingston County

Two lanes of eastbound I-96 will be closed for a chunk of the day Monday, which could cause traffic slowdowns in Livingston County. The work area is near the Grand River entrance/exit. Drivers can expect traffic to be affected from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At the same time, the Grand River ramp to the eastbound highway will be closed for maintenance.

I-75 in Oakland County

Daytime double-lane closures are scheduled for Monday through Thursday on I-75 between Lahring Road and Holly Road in Oakland County. The work period each day is between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. for the southbound work, and between 4 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the northbound work.

M-188 in Eaton County

Workers are scheduled to close Waverly Road (M-188) between VFW Road and Kinneville Road in Eaton County beginning Monday morning. Culvert repairs will require a total road closure.

Drivers will be detoured using VFW Road, M-50/M-99, and Kinneville Road. The project is expected to conclude in late September.

M-100 in Clinton Eaton/County

Lane closures are expected to begin Monday morning along M-100 in Grand Ledge. The work area will be between Main Street and Grand River Avenue.

Drivers should expect lane closures and traffic control regulators in place to allow for sidewalk resurfacing. Work is expected to conclude in early October.

I-196 in Allegan County

Construction on I-196 in Allegan County will require a lane closure Monday through Friday. The work area is at Blue Star Highway (Exit 36) and will require the left lane be closed in each direction.

Closures are scheduled to begin around 7 a.m. Monday and wrap up around 3 p.m. Friday.

M-21 in Shiawassee County

Workers will close some lanes along M-21 for permit work Wednesday in Shiawassee County. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the westbound right lane will be closed from State Street to Elliot Street, and the center turn lane will be closed from State Street to Chipman Street.

On the eastbound side, the center turn lane will be closed between Chipman Street and Main Street. Each stretch is expected to reopen late afternoon Wednesday.
