Drone footage captures the damage from EF-1 tornado in West Michigan

KENT COUNTY, MI -- Aerial images and video captured by MLive show how destructive the EF-1 tornado was that hit Northern Kent County on Thursday evening.

The National Weather Service confirmed on Friday, Aug. 25 that an EF-1 tornado reaching peak wind speeds of about 110 mph touched down in Alpine and Plainfield townships on Aug. 24.

The NWS said the storm was on the ground for 8.7 miles. The most devastating area that MLive captured with the drone was in the area east of M-37 between 6 and 7 mile roads.

The storm destroyed several homes, businesses, vehicles and personal property.
