Driver arrested after motorcyclist fatally struck by vehicle in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Police arrested an 18-year-old who they say fled the scene of a fatal crash with a motorcycle early Saturday, Aug. 26.

Grand Rapids Police responded shortly after midnight to Cesar E. Chavez Avenue (formerly Grandville Avenue SW) and B Street SW to a crash between a motorcycle and a vehicle, a news release said.

The motorcyclist, a 21-year-old Wyoming man, died at the scene.

Police say four people inside the vehicle drove away from the crash.

Grand Rapids Police officers later found the driver and one of the passengers with help from a Michigan State Police helicopter.

The driver, an 18-year-old man with a last confirmed address in Oklahoma, was treated for his injuries and will be lodged on a felony charge, police say.
