ANN ARBOR, MI -- As the weather begins to warm up, you may be looking for the perfect spot to have a cold beer.

Ann Arbor has a variety of places offering lagers, ales, IPAs and plenty of other beers in indoor and outdoor settings.

Check out these five great places to find a refreshing glass of beer in Ann Arbor:

1. Ashley’s

Ashley’s has been beer to Ann Arbor for 40 years offering what seems to be a never-ending list of options.

The business opened with just six beers on tap, but it now offers upwards of 1,000 different beers throughout the year with its rotating taps.

Customers can always find something new on Ashley’s menu since it changes on a daily basis. The bar prides itself on its wide range of beers and ales from all over the world.

Beer flights featuring four 5-ounce pours are also available for customers who may be overwhelmed or just want to try as much as they can.

Ashley’s, 338 S, State St, is open 11:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to midnight Sunday. Happy hour is 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

2. HOMES Brewery

According to its website, HOMES Brewery is known for typically creating hoppy and sour beers, and it aims to keep eight to 14 beers on tap depending on its production capacity.

HOMES Brewery also has in-house bottles, wine, cider and a hard smoothie called Smooj.

HOMES Brewery, 2321 Jackson Ave., is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

The brewery also opened a campus location a few years ago at 112 Jackson Plaza which is mix of a café, gallery, taproom and event space. The location also features beers from HOMES Brewery, along with indoor and outdoor seating.

3. Fraser’s Pub

Sip on some beers and watch your favorite sports games at Fraser’s Pub.

The longtime Ann Arbor bar has been serving customers for more than 50 years, offering all kinds of beer options to choose from.

The pub currently has 22 beers on tap, including wheat beers, pale ales, blonde ales, and some IPAs, according to its website. Fraser’s also offers some bottled and canned beers.

The pub’s hours are 11 to 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday.

4. Heidelberg

It’s not every day that you can drink your beer out of a (glass) boot.

Heidelberg, 215 N. Main St., is an Ann Arbor restaurant and bar known for serving German cuisine and beers in boots. The restaurant offers a variety of draft beers along with whiskey, brandy and scotch.

The restaurant has three different floors, with its bar downstairs called the Rathskeller, the main Alpine dining room and the upstairs nightclub called Club Above, which hosts a variety of music.

The boot of beer is available in both the Rathskeller and the Alpine Dining Room. Customers can order their favorite draft beer in the two liter glass boot for $50 and even take the boot home with them.

Heidelberg is open every day from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.

5. Bill’s Beer Garden

Bill’s Beer Garden is a go-to spot for people looking to enjoy a cold beer outside on a warm day.

Customers can find all kinds of beer from lagers, IPAs, stouts, among others either on tap, in cans or bottled.

The garden also offers wines, cocktails, seltzers, ciders, mead and even some non-alcoholic beer options. Customers wanting to try a little bit of everything can also get a flight featuring four 8-ounce pours of any draft beer.

According to its website, Bill’s Beer Garden hours during April are 5:30 to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

The garden’s hours from May to June will be 5:30 to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday, while its hours from July to September will be 5:30 to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

October hours will be 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday.

However, the beer garden’s operations are dependent on the weather so its website recommends customers stay up to date with the garden’s social media.
