BIG RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, MI - One person was injured after a couple dozen bullets were fired Saturday, Aug. 26 in Big Rapids Township.
The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:19 a.m. to a report of shots fired at an off-campus college apartment complex, according to a news release. The exact location was not disclosed.
Officials say deputies found a “large shooting scene” with more than 40 casings from multiple handguns. Several cars and apartments had been damaged by gunfire.
It was reported to police that several hundred people were in the parking lot at the time of the shooting.
While investigating on scene, deputies learned a 21-year-old woman had been shot in the leg and was inside an apartment. The victim was then transported to Corewell Health - Big Rapids Emergency Department for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspected shooters. Police say there were at least three reported shooters.
